TUNE-UPS tune-ups for your rc engines.
Your carb has three needle settings, low speed and high speed, and idle speed. These need to be set accordingly for the best performance possible. Turn the needles clockwise to lean the fuel mixture and counterclockwise to richen the mixture.
High speed.
Engine should be running rich and be warm before doing any tune-upslean the fuel mixture by 1/16 inch turns. Run a few laps after each adjustment noting any changes in performance, allowing a little time for carb to adjust to new settings. Overheating, hesitation, cutting out, loss of power, and little or no blue smoke are results of an over lean mixture. Richen the high speed needle 1/4 turn and retest. Continue procedures until best results are obtained. There should always be a light stream of blue smoke from the exhaust pipe, and temperatures should be betweeen 220 and 260 depending on manufactures specs.
Low speed.
This needle is to be set after high speed needle is properly set. If high speed needle is set correctly, bring the truck in and squeeze the shut off valve to kill the engine. Engine should run for a few seconds, rev up, and shut down. If your truck runs longer than 2 to 3 seconds then lean the needle 1/16 turn and retest. If there is no rev-up prier to shut down then richen the mixture 1/8 turn and retest. Repeat until truck is snappy on the throttle.no hesitation.power now.
Idle speed. Idle speed tune-ups comes last after high and low needles are satisfactory, keep engine running and adjust radios throttle trim until the brake comes on. Adjust idle needle up or down. Idle should be as low as possible without letting the truck stall. Reset radios throttle trim back to normal. tune-ups Home | Go Back | Top
